19AA & 19AB Exemptions COVID19 Extensions
The Department of Health are granting 6 month extensions to Medical Practitioners who are currently working under a 19AB exemption, or 3GA program to meet their 19AA requirement if it is expiring after May 1 2020 for an ongoing period until COVID19 eases.
The 19AB requirement to work in a DPA location for a period of 10 years remains, however those Doctors who already have exemptions which are expiring will be able to continue working in their current jobs.
There is no requirement to make an application to the Department of Health.
This includes 6 month locum exemptions.
New exemptions will still need to go through the usual process!
The 19AA requirement for non-VR Medical Practitioners to work on an approved 3GA program to gain access to Medicare rebates also stays in place. If you’re currently working on a program that is due to expire after May 1 then you will automatically get an extension so you can continue working on your current program, in your current job.
There is no requirement to make an application to the Department of Health.
New program applications will still need to go through the usual process!
