In a constantly changing environment, we summarise the most important updates for General Practitioners.
This week’s summary includes updates from:
- The Department of Health
- Medical Board of Australia
- 3GA Programs
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH-
Total Coronavirus Cases –
There have been a total of 37,754 cases in Australia. There have been 375 new locally acquired cases and 3 overseas acquired cases in the last 24 hours, with 5879 current active cases.
AMC Tests Cancelled –
Due to the current and ever-changing Covid-19 restrictions throughout Australia, the AMC has decided to cancel the in-person clinical examination dates scheduled at the AMC National Test Centre on the 17th and 18th and 19th of August 2021.
The AMC will endeavor to provide as much notice as practical to participants and reschedule examinations to online events or future in-person examination dates.
Candidates scheduled in the cancelled examination dates of the 17th and 18th and 19th of August, will be offered alternate examination dates.
Applications for ACRRM Independent Pathway –
Applications for the January 2022 intake of the Independent Pathway are now open and will close on the 30th of August 2022.
RACGP RCE Enrolments –
Enrolments for the RACGP Clinical exam opens on August 9 2021.
RACGP Fellowship Reminder –
From January 2022, it will be compulsory for non-VR doctors who don’t have a specialist qualification to complete an approved program – such as PEP, AGPT or RVTS – to be eligible to sit the RACGP Fellowship exams.
Changes to Fellowship Requirements –
Medical Practitioners who achieve Fellowship will no longer be required to submit a HW075 or HW076 form to Medicare in order to be recognised as a Fellow and be eligible for A1 Medicare rates. You will now only need to apply to the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) for Specialist Registration in General Practice.
MEDICAL BOARD OF AUSTRALIA –
Changes to CPD requirements –
Changes to continuing professional development (CPD) that will increase the value of doctors’ life-long learning will start in January 2023.
The changes are included in an updated Medical Board of Australia Continuing professional development (CPD) registration standard, just approved by Australia’s Health Ministers.
Practising registered medical practitioners already do regular CPD that is relevant to their scope of practice.
The three core changes to CPD are the introduction of CPD homes and professional development plans (PDPs) for all doctors, and requiring doctors to do different types of CPD to improve the value of their professional development.
3GA PROGRAM IMPORTANT DATES:
- AGPT applications are now closed.
- RVTS applications are now closed.
- PEP applications are now closed.
- ACRRM Independent Pathway applications are now open.
