In a constantly changing environment, we summarise the most important updates for General Practitioners.

This week’s summary includes updates from:

  • The Department of Health
  • AMC
  • Medicare
  • Medical Board of Australia
  • 3GA Programs

Total Coronavirus Cases –

There have been a total of 41,522 cases in Australia. There have been 752 new locally acquired cases and 4 overseas acquired cases in the last 24 hours, with 8955 current active cases.

Vaccine Operations Centre –

Australia has secured one million additional doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine from the Republic of Poland in a major boost to our rollout program.

The additional doses will be targeted at Australians aged 20 to 39 years of age – the cohort identified in the Doherty modelling as being the peak transmitters of COVID-19.

These doses are on top of the 40 million Pfizer doses Australia has already secured for 2021.

AMC Tests Cancelled –

Due to the current and ongoing Covid-19 restrictions throughout Australia, the AMC has found it necessary to cancel the in-person clinical examination dates scheduled at the AMC National Test Centre on the 9th, 10th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd of September 2021.

The AMC is continuing to work towards conducting both the online clinical examinations and recommencing in-person examinations in late 2021 to accommodate candidate requests.

Candidates scheduled for the cancelled examination dates of the 9th, 10th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd of September 2021, will be offered alternate examination dates. Communication regarding the rescheduling will be emailed to candidates directly.

RACGP Fellowship Reminder –

From January 2022, it will be compulsory for non-VR doctors who don’t have a specialist qualification to complete an approved program – such as PEP, AGPT or RVTS – to be eligible to sit the RACGP Fellowship exams.

Medical Training Survey –

The Medical Training Survey (MTS) opens in August 2021 and gives trainees a voice about their experience of medical training.

The MTS is a longitudinal study that tracks the quality of medical training. Stringent privacy controls make it safe and confidential for trainees to take part. The MTS is run by the Medical Board of Australia.

Again this year, the MTS is asking trainees about the impact of COVID-19 on their training.
