HEALTH WORKFORCE CERTIFICATE
A Health Workforce Certificate was introduced earlier this year with the objective of having Medical Practitioners go into areas with lower access to medical services. This initiative has redirected IMGs from metropolitan areas to rural, remote and regional areas of Australia.
DO I NEED A HEALTH WORKFORCE CERTIFICATE?
If you are planning to work as a General Practitioner, Resident Medical Officer or Medical Practitioner you will be required to have a Health Workforce Certificate for an employer-sponsored visa.
An approved Health Workforce Certificate will need to be attached for the following applications for a Medical Practitioner:
- 482 Temporary Skills Shortage
- Subclass 186 Employer Nomination Scheme
- Subclass 187 Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme
HOW TO APPLY FOR A PRACTICE
To apply the Practice will need to fill out the online application form, which they can access at this link: https://fs9.formsite.com/UUVsEC/qngros0tjs/index.html
When submitting an application, they will need to provide the following details:
- Employer details
- Details for the contact officer
- Position title
- Job location
- Practitioner details
Once the Practice has provided this information, they can agree to the terms and submit their application.
Processing times for an application will vary, with the majority of applications taking between 5-10 business days.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A HOSPITAL
State and Territory Government employer nominated Hospital positions will have their applications streamlined with the Health Workforce Certificate. To apply, they will need to fill out the information at this link: https://fs9.formsite.com/UUVsEC/ts9l2d3ctg/index.html
When submitting an application, they will need to provide the following details:
- Employers Name and the Contact Officers details
- Practitioners details
- Hospital name and address
Once the hospital has provided this information, they can agree with the declarations and submit the application.
Applications are generally processed within 2 business days.
HOW LONG IS A HEALTH WORKFORCE CERTIFICATE VALID FOR?
A Health Workforce Certificate is valid for 3 months from the date it was issued. If your Health Workforce Certificate expires before you are able to apply, the practice will need to submit an application for a new Certificate.
HOW IS THE NEED FOR DOCTORS MEASURED FOR THE HWC?
A new data planning tool was developed by the Department of Health to support a more effective distribution of IMGS. No information has been disclosed about what is included in this assessment, so we generally recommend that the practice is at least an MMM 2 or higher area.
WHAT CAN I DO IF MY APPLICATION WAS REFUSED?
If your application is rejected, you will receive an email from HR+ Tasmania advising you of this outcome, why your application was not approved and where you can go to seek further advice. You do have the option of requesting a review of the decision by emailing visasforgps@hrplustas.com.au.
