Practice Experience Program

What is the Practice Experience Program?

RACGP’s Practice Experience Program (PEP) is a program designed to help you achieve Fellowship through self-directed education.

From January 2022 onwards, it will be compulsory for all doctors to complete an RACGP approved program in order to sit the RACGP exams.

Am I Eligible?

To participate on PEP, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Be a non-VR doctor
  • Hold limited, provisional, or general medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Have a job offer or be currently working in a MMM2-7 location.
  • Pass the PEP Entrance Assessment (PEPEA)

What is the PEPEA?

The PEPEA is a test with clinical applied knowledge questions and situational judgement test (SJT) questions. There are 100 questions on the PEPEA.

You are required to pass the PEPEA before you can be approved on PEP.

After applying for PEP, eligible candidates will be invited to enrol in and pay for the PEPEA.

How long is the program?

The PEP consists of 6 month terms. The duration of your PEP placement depends on your application. The education component of PEP ranges from a minimum of 12 months to 30 months (until 30 June 2023), whichever is sooner.

Where will I work?

You will need to be working or have a job offer in a MMM2-7 location. If you are restricted by 19AB, the practice will also need to be in a DPA location.

How do I apply?

You can apply via the RACGP Portal. Once you have applied you will be notified of how to enrol in and pay for the PEPEA. Once all your eligibility is confirmed and you have passed the PEPEA, you will be offered a place to start on PEP in the next cohort.

How Much Does PEP Cost?

The total cost of PEP will depend on how many terms you participate on. Each 6 month term costs $2000. There are also the additional costs of the PEPEA which is $725 and the RACGP Membership Fee which is $495 annually.
