Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Updates – 

On the 1st of November 2018, the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) will be updated.  


The updates affecting General Practice include: 

  • Plastic and reconstructive surgery items, 
  • Skin-prick testing and dermatology items, 
  • GP referrals for respiratory function and sleep studies.

Provider Number Application Forms – 

Medicare have updated their manual application forms as of the 10th of September 2018. All Medical Practitioners applying for Medicare provider numbers and, or prescriber numbers must now use the HW019.1809 form. Any other versions of the application form used may result in your application being rejected.

Application Processing Times – 

Medicare experiences peak processing times between December and April each year. For General Practitioners looking to apply for a Medical Practitioner Provider Number via a manual application, please make sure you don’t leave it to the last minute.  

During peak processing times Medicare publish their current processing times on the website –  




The 2018.2 OSCE is being held on the 11th of November 2018. For those taking the exam, results will be available from the 17th of December 2018.  



Enrolments for 2019.1 AKT & KFP close as of 8pm AEDT on the 16th of November 2018.  The AKT will be held on the 1st of February 2019 with results available on the 27th of March 2019. The KFP will be held on the 23nd of February 2019, with results available on the 20th of March 2019.
