UPDATE: Special Approved Placements Program (SAPP) Closure Date

The Special Approved Placements Program (SAPP) is a 3GA program approved by 19AA allowing those eligible to provide Medicare rebatable services in Australia. This year, it was announced that it would be closing and we have been waiting for confirmation of a date. This morning, it was confirmed that SAPP would be closing effective July 1st 2019.

Why is it closing?

The Department of Health is streamlining the 3GA programs as a part of their ‘Stronger Rural Health Strategy’, which aims at building a sustainable, high quality health workforce distributed across the country based on community need particularly in rural and remote communities.

These are the facts:

? SAPP is closing July 1 2019

?If your application goes in prior to July 1 2019, it will still be considered

?Existing SAPP approvals will continue until the end of your placement

?Extensions may be considered case by case, but only to the maximum of the category you’re under

?You can move practices providing your circumstances haven’t changed, and only to the maximum of the category you’re under

?If you were intending to apply for SAPP and your application has been delayed by AHPRA or Immigration, your application will still be considered
