Week That Was

General Practice Updates

In a constantly changing environment, we summarise the most important updates for General Practitioners.

This week’s summary includes updates from:

  • Department of Health
  • RACGP
  • ACRRM

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH-

Coronavirus at a glance –

19AB and 19AA exemptions extended –

To support doctors during COVID19, the Department of Health is automatically providing a 6 month extension of 3GA placements and 19AB exemptions expiring from May 1 2020. No application is required by the doctor, and the extensions will be processed on a month by month basis. All extensions will be confirmed with each doctor via letter or email. However, doctors who are within 6 months or reaching the maximum participation period in their 3GA program will undergo further review by the department before being granted an extension.

The department is also waiving the following requirements:

  • All program milestones will be suspended for 6 months
  • Extensions will not count towards program participation maximum
  • For current AMDS doctors, evidence of Advanced Life Support recertification will be waived for 6 months.

RACGP-

AGPT Program –

Applications for the 2021 intake for the RACGP Australian General Practice Training Program close on May 11th. In response to COVID19, there will also be 2 intake periods next year, one in January and the other in July, to allow doctors more opportunity to gain General Registration before the commencement of either of these periods.

ACRRM-

PESCI –

Due to COVID19, all ACRRM PESCI interviews will be conducted via teleconference. Applicants will be prioritised by their location meaning that those who are sitting PESCI’s for the state they currently reside in will be prioritised, followed by those who live in Australia but not in the state, and finally those who reside outside of Australia.
