THIS WEEK’S QUESTION…?
Will the Special Approved Placements Program and Rural Locum Relief Program be ending in 2019?
The Short Answer
Yes- The Department of Health have confirmed in writing that both the Special Approved Placements Program (SAPP) and Rural Locum Relief Program (RLRP) will be ending during 2019.
When will SAPP & RLRP cease accepting applications?
There isn’t an official end date available, but The Department of Health say that it’s likely both SAPP and RLRP will cease accepting applications within the first half of 2019.
What If I’m Already on SAPP or RLRP?
This will not change, you will continue on these programs until your approved time has been exhausted or you achieve fellowship.
Can I still apply for SAPP or RLRP?
Yes, you can still apply for either program until an official end date has been released. For all who are planning to apply for either SAPP or RLRP, you will need to get your applications in as soon as possible so that you don’t miss the cut-off dates to apply (dates have not yet been announced).
What happens if I miss the cut- off date to apply for SAPP or RLRP?
A new 3GA program, The More Doctors for Rural Australia Program (MDRAP) has been introduced. As a quick run-down, to join MDRAP you will need to be working in a DWS area with an MMM rating between 2 – 7. Keep an eye out, as our team will release a more detailed blog about MDRAP later this week.
