Can I ‘fill my gap’ with CPD?

The Answer
No.
Why not?
The only way to ‘fill your gap’ is by actually working, in some capacity. The purpose for this is to be more job eligible, but also to meet ‘Recency of Practice’ so that you’ll be eligible for registration with AHPRA.
“Recency of Practice” is defined by AHPRA as having ‘maintained an adequate connection with, and recent practice in the profession since qualifying for, or obtaining registration.’
What is the point of doing CPD then?
AHPRA not only wants to see that you’ve maintained a connection with clinical practice, but also that you’re demonstrating a commitment to your profession. Participating in CPD and meeting the minimum standard shows AHPRA that you’re serious, and willing to work towards being a safe clinician.
