I have hired a supervised doctor who is about to apply for General, what do I need to do?

Check the eligibility and submit the requirements for General Registration with AHPRA. The doctor must be any of the following:

  • An Australian and New Zealand medical graduate who have completed an accredited internship in Australia or New Zealand, and must provide:
  • An Australian and New Zealand medical graduate who completed a medical internship in another country, and must provide:
    • AGEN-30 – Application for general registration as a medical practitioner
    • Mandatory registration standards – English language skills, recency of practice, professional indemnity insurance
    • Proof of identity
    • Medical qualifications – Proof of a primary degree in medicine and surgery, after completing an approved program of study from an Australian or New Zealand medical school accredited by the Australian Medical Council
    • Medical internship or comparable – Proof of satisfactory completion of a medical internship or comparable outside of Australia or New Zealand
    • WRIG-30 Workplace Performance Report – As proof of completing 12 months (47 weeks full-time equivalent) of approved supervised practice in Australia
    • Letter of recommendation – This letter for general registration should come from your Director of Training, Director of Medical Services (or equivalent) or your Board approved principal supervisor
    • Registration history – Details of registration history outside of Australia. For those who had or have health practitioner registration in another country, you are also required to arrange certificates of good standing/registration status (or equivalent type of certificate) from each registration authority that you have been registered with in the past 10 years.

    • Criminal history check
    • Fees
    • Other supporting documents
  • A medical practitioner who has previously held general registration in Australia, and must provide:
    • AGEN-30 or AGNP-30
      • AGEN-30 – Medical practitioners without current non-practising registration
      • AGNP-30 – Medical practitioners with current non-practising registration
    • Mandatory registration standards – English language skills, recency of practice, professional indemnity insurance
    • Proof of identity
    • Medical qualifications – Proof of a primary degree in medicine and surgery
    • Medical internship or comparable – Proof of completing a medical internship or comparable 
    • Registration history – Details of registration history outside of Australia. For those who had or have health practitioner registration in another country, you are also required to arrange certificates of good standing/registration status (or equivalent type of certificate) from each registration authority that you have been registered with in the past 10 years.

  • An international medical graduate in the competent authority pathway, and must provide:
    • AGEN-30 – Application for general registration as a medical practitioner
    • Mandatory registration standards – English language skills, recency of practice, professional indemnity insurance
    • Proof of identity
    • Medical qualifications – Proof of a primary degree in medicine and surgery, after completing an approved course of study at a medical school listed by both the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and the World Directory of Medical Schools or other publications approved by the AMC and/or the Board.
    • Primary source verification of your qualifications – Proof that you have applied for, or have the results of, primary source verification of your medical qualifications by an authority approved by the Board. You must apply to the Australian Medical Council who will verify your qualifications through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Electronic Portofolio of International Credentials (EPIC).
    • Medical internship or comparable – Proof of completing a medical internship or comparable

    • Medical qualifications – Proof of a primary degree in medicine and surgery
    • Medical internship or comparable – Proof of completing a medical internship or comparable 
    • Registration history – Details of registration history outside of Australia. For those who had or have health practitioner registration in another country, you are also required to arrange certificates of good standing/registration status (or equivalent type of certificate) from each registration authority that you have been registered with in the past 10 years.
