Need help understanding your pathway?
Date Updated: 2025-07-14
Yes. The Health Workforce Locator Map always reflects the date of its update on the upper left corner which you can see how to access here.
The latest MMM and DPA classification update was in 2023, and both the MMM and DPA recent changes were implemented in Services Australia’s system last 13 April 2025.
You can see how to check the Health Workforce Locator Map here.
MM 2 – 7 locations
All MM 2 – 7 locations are currently DPA and this is reflected on the Health Workforce Locator Map.
Exceptional Applications for DPA
For exceptional circumstances, you can also request a review if considerations for access to GP services are affected. However, keep in mind that your practice has to be in a MM 1 outer-metropolitan location and reach out to your local Rural Workforce Agency (RWA).
Your RWA will apply on your behalf and the behalf of your local area for DPA. These results may not be reflected on the map, but the application status or outcome will be reflected in the list located here: https://www.health.gov.au/committees-and-groups/distribution-working-group#exceptional-circumstances-reviews-and-outcomes
The Department of Health has assured our team that Medicare will be checking this list when assessing applications. You can include a screenshot of the list with your application just to be sure!
You can read more about how to request a review here.
