Need help understanding your pathway?

In attaining a GP Fellowship, you can work towards the Fellowship of Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or the Fellowship of Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM).

Both colleges require you to be on one of the approved pathway programs in order to sit the GP Fellowship exams. However, these 2 colleges offer different training programs and Fellowship exams, therefore different eligibility requirements as well.

FRACGP

We made a list for you on the following RACGP Fellowship programs:

Once you get accepted to the program, you will be required to finish the training, professional and ethical, and assessment requirements. The RACGP eligibility requirements to attain Fellowship are:

  • Have current medical registration with AHPRA throughout the program
  • Be a current Financial RACGP Member throughout the program
  • Satisfactorily complete the Education and Training Requirements for exam eligibility of your program within the set timeframe as detailed in your training plan
  • Satisfactorily complete Fellowship Exams within 3 calendar years of the candidacy commencement
    • Note: If you do not pass all 3 Fellowship exams by the end of your candidacy, then you will not be eligible for Fellowship. Also, you can’t sit the Fellowship exams if you are on an approved leave, unless you are on parental leave where you will need to submit a request to sit the Fellowship Exams and that request must be supported by the Training Program Team.
  • Training: Registrars must meet all Training Program Requirements of their Training Program.
  • Professional and ethical: RACGP can withhold admission of Fellowship if you have not finished the fellowship requirements or if you have an addenda on your current medical registration with AHPRA.

  • Assessment: Pass the following Fellowship exams:
    • Applied Knowledge Test (AKT)
    • Key Feature Problem (KFP)
    • Clinical Competency Exam (CCE)

FACRRM

Here’s a list of the following ACRRM Fellowship programs:

Please note that you will submit a written suitability assessment and have Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) during the application process of AGPT and IP.

Once you get accepted to the program, you will be required to finish the training, education, and assessment requirements. The minimum eligibility criteria set by ACRRM are:

  • Have current medical registration with AHPRA
  • Have current financial membership with the College
  • Enrol in a recognised Fellowship Training Program
  • Training: Finish 3 years of Core Generalist Training (CGT) and 1-2 years of your chosen Advanced Specialised Training (AST).

  • Assessment: Pass the following assessment modalities in order to attain Fellowship:
    • Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercise (miniCEX)
    • Multi-Source Feedback (MSF)
    • Multiple-Choice Question assessment (MCQ)
    • Case Based Discussion (CBD)
    • Structured Assessment using Multiple Patient Scenarios (StAMPS)
    • Logbooks
    • Projects
    • Note: Registrars are allowed four (4) attempts at each assessment. An assessment cannot be undertaken without College approval while on any form of additional leave from training.
