There are various types of CVs you will need to prepare during your journey into General Practice, so we have prepared a guide on when you will need to prepare these CVs below!
Employment CV
An Employment CV is needed when you are applying for job advertisements. Unless requested by a specific job vacancy, there isn’t a required format for an Employment CV and the information included and format will greatly depend on your personal preference. When preparing an Employment CV, we would suggest including the following as per our understanding of what employers prefer to be presented with:
- A 3-page CV
- A format that will stand out
- Details of your qualifications and qualifying examinations
- Career history
- Registration history
- Referees
- Any additional relevant information
When designing your Employment CV there are a number of styles you can use. For example, you can keep your CV very simple and professional, design a creative CV with a few flourishes or prepare a modern looking CV. Within these styles, we recommend including the colour blue in your CV as it will portray the feeling of trust!
RACGP CV
An RACGP CV will need to be prepared when you are submitting an application for an RACGP General Practice Experience Assessment.
This format is in an editable PDF and can be found under point 3.2.1 at this link: https://www.racgp.org.au/education/gp-training/gp-training/education-policy-and-supporting-documents/program-handbooks-and-guidance-documents/guidance-documents/general-practice-experience-assessment
AHPRA CV
You will use an AHPRA CV when you are applying for AHPRA Registration and if you are applying for a PESCI with RACGP.
AHPRA does not have a format available to download for their CV; however, they have outlined what information needs to be included in your AHPRA CV and in what order this information should be provided. You can find the details for how to prepare an AHPRA CV at this link: https://www.ahpra.gov.au/Registration/Applying-for-registration/Standard-Format-for-Curriculum-Vitae.aspx
ACRRM CV
You are required to prepare an ACRRM formatted CV if you are applying for an ACRRM PESCI.
The CV format and other documents required for an ACRRM PESCI can be found under ‘PESCI Resources’ section at this link: https://www.acrrm.org.au/international-graduates/pesci
Rural Workforce Agencies CV
A few of the Rural Workforce Agencies have their own CV format that will need to be prepared when applying to PFP. If you are applying for PFP, make sure you check what information is required and prepare a CV according to these standards.
You can check the list of Rural Health Workforce Australia (RHWA) contacts here:
- New South Wales: NSW Rural Doctors Network
- Victoria: Rural Workforce Agency Victoria
- Queensland: Health Workforce Queensland
- Western Australia: Rural Health West
- South Australia: Rural Doctors Workforce Agency
- Tasmania: The People Project
- Northern Territory: Northern Territory PHN
Tips for Preparing your CV
For an RACGP CV, AHPRA CV, ACRRM CV and Rural Workforce Agencies C,V you will need to prepare the CV in the format required and provide the required information. If you do not provide a CV that meets their standards, your application will be delayed until this is provided.
Within these formats, you do not have to fill out all of the sections if they do not relate to your experience. For example, if you do not have research or teaching experience you can leave these sections blank.
