What is WBA?

The Workplace based assessment (WBA) is an evaluation for a doctor’s performance in everyday clinical practice, and it is another option for accomplishing the clinical component of your assessment rather than taking the AMC Clinical Examination.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible, you must have:

  • Passed the AMC CAT MCQ Examination
  • Limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • An appointed position at a practice or hospital for the whole program
  • Note: You must also already be working with the accredited service provider before you will be able to apply for the WBA program

How can I apply?

To apply for a workplace based assessment program, here is a visual summary:

  • Step 1: Contact the accredited WBA provider, and express your interest. If the provider offers you a place in the assessment program, proceed to the next step.
    • You can see the list of providers below.
  • Step 2: WBA provider will nominate you for the program, and WBA team will check if you qualify.
    • Note: You cannot take WBA if you are enrolled in an AMC Clinical exam.
  • Step 3: You will receive an email about a placement if you’re qualified. You can accept the offer and pay for the necessary fees or decline.

What are the accredited WBA providers?

Currently, these are the only approved providers of WBA, which means if you are considering this option you will need to apply to work at one of their hospitals:

  • Central Coast Local Health District
  • Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service
